About Me

headshotFreda Mooncotch is The Wine Wench - Your Wine Negotiant! Simply put, I am the girl next door who has only one interest; to bring you the best deals on some of the best wines from around the world! These wenchin deals will be offered through our wine of the month club or deal of the day.

Although I may not be a sommelier–but am pursuing my certification– I am a wench who knows a bargain when I see one and enjoy sharing with my wino mates the treasures I find on my travels. This is my zeal for life and to that end I live.

If you are a wine snoot, this blog is not for you and I quote Ernest Hemingway, “In Europe we thought of wine as something as healthy and normal as food and also a great giver of happiness and well being and delight. Drinking wine was not a snobbism nor a sign of sophistication nor a cult; it was as natural as eating and to me as necessary.” So find a plank and walk.

Internet Geek or Goddess?
I have managed to gather 45k followers on Twitter in addition to attracting a large audience that follow my blog, Facebook and LinkedIn (over 160k+ & growing). Although I don’t understand this social networking thing, I some how seemed to figure it out and it works well for me and my personality. I appreciate ALL of my loyal fans, followers and friends.

My Purpose:
I love domestic and international travel, old and new world wines, especially red wines, and the people who make them and the people who drink them. Think of me as Your Wine Concierge! I’m out and about traveling the globe finding the best wines at the best values and selling them here through our wine club. Now I’m not talking cheap wines in the sense of low grade, low quality wines, we all know where we can go to get those, the wines that fall in my lap will be rare and unique, more than likely from smaller vineyards and wineries.  These wines will be remarkable deals while others will be apart of our monthly club, but one thing is for sure we go out of our way to make sure you are getting the best!

While I may not be the most intelligent wino in the bar, I am a very talented networker and posses the gift of gab, good looks and the finesse of persuasion. Hell it is easy to persuade fellow winos when they are under the influence of my charm (really it’s the alcohol; anyone looks great, sounds intelligent and can be talked out of just about anything after a few drinks). Oh and not to toot my own horn…I have a knack for teaming up with the right people to make it all happen.

And There’s More!
In addition to bringing you remarkable deals on quality wine, port and spirits, we may add in chocolate, cheese and cigars as things wench along. You will also find me blogging about random stuff from business consulting to life  in an attempt to give you a full fledged wenchin experience. You will read stories–some dull, some adventurous–behind finding these great wines, the people who make them and more. You see, here at The Wine Wench Warehouse, we believe in experiential service which means that to really enjoy the wine we deliver to your living room,  you need the story behind the wine–not to mention it makes you look really smart when you are out with your favorite drinking buddies or gal pals or that one particular wine whore your trying to impress…even more so if their a wine biatch or bastard–this extra knowledge will enhance their experience with the wine, more importantly with YOU and by the end of the night they will be your biatch or bastard. All in a days work!

They say do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life! This is true. Lucky is the person that does what they love.

Where It All Started!
My mother often says, “You are your father’s daughter,” because just like him I tend to talk to anyone about anything.

Me, Dad, Lisa & Judi

We both have an unfounded love for people and live for those interactions. My father is one in a million. Born in southern Illinois during the depression, in a very poor family (his father was known as the junk man because he owned a junk yard), often refers to himself as a “hillbilly,” always smelled like garlic (they used garlic in everything), left home at the age of 15 to work (had to help support his family), was drafted into the Marines, served in Iwo Jima and is one of the few surviving men, married his high-school sweet heart,  lost her after 11 years  to a brain tumor and then met and married my incredible mom and together they raised a small baseball team (9 kids, 2 grand kids and hell any stray kids too), ran a successful business, paid all their debt off, happens too tell the most amazing stories about what he thinks are ordinary experiences and is loved and adored by many because of his simple, genuine, philosophical outlook on life. He is the most grounded, resilient man I know. I adore and respect him tremendously. I’ve adopted most, if not all, of his philosophy and views on life. He will chat up anyone and he loves to tell jokes. Some of my favorite quotes are: “It isn’t what is on the outside that makes you special, but what is on the inside.” Or “The way to a successful relationship is to keep your mouth shut.” Or “Do you want to be right or happy?” My parents simply rock!

On a side note, with my mom’s permission of course, my dad liked to drink, a lot, while my mom loved to eat (hell who wouldn’t raising nine fricken kids!). Caught between Jack Daniels and a whopper, I quickly learned how to have the best of both worlds and have taken eating and drinking to a whole new level by sophisticating them. It is no wonder I am a luscious lush and a glorious glutton.

Me & My Boy!

Me & Zach

I have an amazing son, Zach, who recently turned 18. I was thrown into single parenting 18 years ago when the guy who I trusted and loved knocked me up, we wed, and then he decided he wasn’t ready for the marital bed, let alone being a father. He left when I was just two months pregnant.

I’m not going to lie and pretend that everything was peachy keen, it wasn’t. It has been an incredible journey for us even though at times life’s challenges and obstacles seemed insurmountable, yet we managed to find a way through, over or around each one. These experiences taught us about what really matters in life and gave us unshakable faith, resilience, courage, love and hope and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We are who we are today because of what we’ve been through individually and collectively.  Not only is he my son but I consider him my best friend. As he enters some of the most exciting years of his life, I enter some of the most rewarding years of mine. Our personalities and positive attitudes feed off of each other. His free spirit combined with my ability to  pipe dream are taking us down paths neither of us ever could have imagined. I have gleefully entered the second half of my life as I watch my son take flight into his!

My Philosophy On Life:
When you approach life with a child-like mind your experiences will be the most rewarding. Life isn’t about collecting experiences to feel satisfied but understanding the only thing that really separates you from enjoyment and satisfaction is your own thoughts. I love to lift people up and inspire them. More importantly, I love to show people that they are complete such as they are.

On my journey I’ve met a ton of interesting people, been to some pretty cool places and over all am deeply grateful for life. I believe we should live everyday as if it were our last… meaning; let go of all the thinking that contaminates your thoughts and keeps you from experiencing your own happiness. It is on those premises that I write from!

I believe that everyday is an adventure depending on the quality of thinking you bring to each and every experience and this is the sum total of my life! Favorite Quote:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. – Marianne Williamson
